Outline of Welsh leg confirmed for 2021 Roger Albert Clark Rally
Some of the best-known Welsh forest special stages will be a key part of a major Welsh leg of the 2021 Roger Albert Clark Rally (25-29 November).
After three days in the north of England and southern Scotland, the epic five-day rally will move to Wales for Sunday and Monday (28/29 November) and the outline route for Wales has been confirmed to help intending competitors plan logistics and accommodation.
Following three days of rallying in Kielder and the Scottish Borders, the rally will finish its third leg in Carlisle on Saturday evening. Crews will then head south to Welshpool where the rally will restart at mid-day on Sunday for around 70 stage miles over world class forest stages with service in Dolgellau and the end of the leg in Machynlleth on Sunday evening.
The final day of the rally will restart from the Epynt ranges on Monday morning for a further 60 stage miles before the finish on Monday afternoon. Exact details of the special stages to be used will be confirmed shortly but what is certain is that the 2021 Welsh leg will be the biggest so far for this incredible event.
Up to 40% of the total competitive route of 350 stage miles will run in Wales and the event will use special stages never before used in the previous 13 editions of the Roger Albert Clark Rally.
Rally manager Colin Heppenstall said it was important to get this information out as early as possible. He said: “We have had many, many enquiries from prospective competitors who are keen to book accommodation in good time. We hope that this information will allow them to continue their planning. The rally will overnight on Saturday night in Welshpool and on Sunday night crews will have the option of staying anywhere between Machynlleth and Epynt. This will help spread out the demand for accommodation in an area with few major hotels.”
Further details of the 2021 route in Wales will be confirmed shortly and Heppenstall anticipates opening entries for the event at the end of April. Judging by the level of competitor interest, there is going to be a heavy demand for places on what will be the longest and toughest special stage rally in the UK for more than two decades.
