Marshals required for the MACH 1 Stages Rally, 10-11 July
Venue: Machrihanish Airbase, near Campbelltown
This year’s event gets under way at 09:00 on Saturday 10th July with the Juniors tackling three separate groups of stages which, although the names might be the same, have enough changes to keep them on their toes. Bunkers and Gatehouse stages are very technical, while they get the chance to put their foot down as well as tackling tricky sections on 4 runs through the Taxiway stage. They cover nearly 48 miles over 12 stages.
The Seniors start at 11:00 on Saturday and cover the same stages (again with enough tweaks to keep things interesting), nearly 44 miles over 8 stages. Competition on Sunday 11th starts at 08:00, when they compete over various iterations of Runaround and Taxiway stages, all of which are over 13 miles long, giving them 53 miles, and a total of 12 stages and nearly 97 miles over the two days.
This promises to be a very good weekend of motorsport, with committed and often entertaining driving by both fields.
This year’s running of MACH 1 will differ from previous years due to the need to implement various Covid protocols to keep all our marshals, competitors and officials safe. The good news is that the Argyll Bakeries stand will be on site!
Diana Baines is looking for radio marshals to cover mandatory and various other locations where experience shows that things can go wrong, and Keith Cowan is also looking for marshals of all disciplines.
This year all signing on and distribution of documentation will be online. The appropriate systems are being developed, as is the registration system for marshals, radio marshals and officials; availability of on-base accommodation is also being finalised. Full operational details will be circulated nearer the time.
In the meantime, please could you email us if you’d be interested in helping on the MACH 1?
